The American Tribute idea was originally developed by Jim and Rachel Van Eerden and their children as a way to celebrate the American spirit. Julie Heckman and her colleagues at the American Pyrotechnics Association saw The Tribute as an opportunity for the fireworks industry to create a legacy event that becomes part of the nation's Fourth of July fireworks displays for generations to come.
The grassroots effort to launch The Tribute began in the summer of 2002. Fireworks display producers and event organizers are helping to make it happen. Members of the Founders' Circle will be recorded as those who helped launch this new American tradition.
