A new American tradition awas launched on Independence Day 2002, now known as The American Tribute. It is a simple but powerful idea. The American Tribute is a reflective moment int he nation's Independence Day fireworks displays. There is a silent sky, and then: a solitary, spectacular burst of red...followed, once the sky has cleared, by a solitary, spectacular burst of white...followed, once the sky has cleared again, by a solitary, spectacular burst of blue. A spectacular tribute written in the sky to the indomitable American spirit. [Read about it: 7.4.2003 Press Release ]

The Tribute tradition, witnessed for the first time by millions of people last summer, has been created to convey a timely message. During the still, reflective moments of The Tribute salute, people will be reminded, in a unifying way, what is signified by "The Colors of America":

Red, for the blood of many heroes shed;
White, for freedom's light still shining bright; and
Blue, for the courage to stand tall and true!
